The Green Party beat the ruling party into 5th place! Shame about the filthy UKIP's success though. What the fuck point is there voting for an anti-EU party in European elections? I can't begin to voice my disgust at being beaten by these wankers, let alone the dirty Tories.

This is one of my favourite subjects to rant about. Check the map and, apart from Portugal- a country of 10 million with less than half the population density of the UK- see if you can spot any country in Western Europe without a red, high-speed line in it (The poxy piece between Waterloo and the channel tunnel doesn't count, IMO).

the solution to the Iranian debacle

The solution requires no display of military prowess and certainly doesn't involve the Americans. In fact it involves diplomacy and a little economic pressure from some other Europeans. Its time that Europe took its share of responsibility for global security. There is little doubt in my mind that our diplomats would be far more competent at the job than the yee-has of the US Marine Corps.
